Changing a Rooms look with the season
The bed is the center of most bedrooms, the focal point that can set the tone for the entire room. Often it is the furniture chosen, the bedframe and headboard that offers a talking piece – yet the bed clothes themselves deliver more of a statement. Switching the entire look of a room is as easy as changing sheets and quilts, or flipping pillows and duvet covers.
Change comes naturally with the seasons, a fact that can help liven a room with color, and keep the bedding suited to a comfortable weight for the time of year. With Spring fast on our heels, altering the scheme of a bedroom to incorporate this period of rebirth is light, easy and fun.
The first step in any appearance overall is choosing color; hues considered spring-like are most commonly pastels, the soft and light colors that whisper instead of shout their presence. Pinks, yellows, greens and peaches all speak of the flower season, with some blues and even soft greys hinting at the rain that makes those flowers grow. Solid colors are error free choices while flower patterns or geometric designs can offer an interesting contrast to the eye.
As with all choices in bedding, the size of the bed matters, this will often determine the final look of the scheme, as well as the artistic frills. While a California King will look resplendent with three or four pillows, a Full will look over done with more than two.
In some areas, the choice to have light coverings that can be layered is a temperature wise solution, while other locals are better suited to lighter comforters, or the even wiser duvet choice. Duvets, popular the world over, are a common fixture in modern homes. Taken from the French word for ‘down’ this bedroom staple comes in a variety of warmth ratings called Togs.
A Tog rating of 3.0 – 5.0 would be suitable for Spring and Summer months, as well as locations where the temperature does not drop significantly. Designed to be used with a cover, Duvets are a perfect choice for those that like to change up the appearance of their rooms – and much more affordable than buying new furniture!
